Dana Throop - Instructor and Choreographer

BA(Hons), B/Ed. D.S.W., Acrobatic Arts Certified, ADAPT Junior Jazz, Tap in Training, ADTA Faculty, Alixa Flexibility Certified (Levels 1-3)

My name is Dana Throop. I have been teaching recreational and competitive dance programs for several years, in several genres, in several locations, including Tillsonburg, Burford, Kingston, and Belleville. By day I work at Bayfield School where I teach a wide variety of academic students in grades seven through twelve. By night I teach recreational and competitive acrobatic dance here at the Ireland Academy of Dance, where I have been teaching for 11 years now. I also teach stretch and strength, jazz, beginner tap, and musical theatre when required! In my spare time I enjoy a variety of sports, especially soccer and horseback riding. I can also be found curled up with a good book during any down time I can find.

I hold an Honours degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Western Ontario, a diploma in Developmental Service Work with a specialist in Education/Educational Assistance, and my Bachelors of Education from Queen’s University. I have participated in many different workshops that deal with different genres of education and coaching, varying approaches to learning styles and learning disabilities, and others of varied topics.

As a dancer myself in my younger years, I participated in shows, demonstrations, and competitions throughout South Western Ontario as a dancer for Burford Dancers, Waterloo Academy of Dance, Dance Stop, and the University of Western Ontario. I participated in workshops whenever I could, and was invited to tryout for the first Raptors Dance Pak (which, sadly, I had to turn down).

I am a Master Instructor and Examiner with Acrobatique AcroDance Inc, have completed my Junior level A.D.A.P.T certification, and have completed two of six levels of Alixa Flexibility, working toward becoming a certified flexibility specialist.

I have a passion for the arts in all forms, and enjoy passing on my love and knowledge of dance to my students. I look forward to meeting you and your children!
